Duties of the

COUNTY SHERIFF

  • Maintain Public Safety
    Enforce state laws, traffic laws, and county ordinances within the county.

  • Operate the County Jail
    Manage, staff, and oversee the detention center; ensure the safety and care of inmates.

  • Serve Civil & Legal Process
    Deliver subpoenas, warrants, summonses, eviction notices, and other court-related documents.

  • Court Security
    Provide security for the county courthouse and courtrooms, including judges, staff, and the public.

  • Criminal Investigations
    Conduct investigations into crimes occurring in the county’s jurisdiction.

  • Patrol County Roads & Rural Areas
    Provide law enforcement coverage outside municipal limits.

  • Transport Prisoners
    Move inmates to and from court, medical appointments, other jails, or the Department of Corrections.

  • Maintain Sex Offender Registry (Local Level)
    Ensure local registration and compliance for sex offenders residing in the county.

  • Emergency Response & Disaster Assistance
    Assist with natural disasters, search and rescue, and countywide emergency coordination.

  • Civil Asset & Property Custody
    Secure and manage property connected with criminal cases or civil actions.

  • Execute Court Orders
    Carry out evictions, property seizures, mental health orders, and other directives issued by the court.

  • Community Policing & Outreach
    Build relationships with residents, attend community events, and support crime-prevention efforts.

  • Manage Sheriff’s Office Budget & Personnel
    Supervise staff, allocate resources, and oversee the operational budget.

The Lincoln County Jail is responsible for the safe and secure detention of individuals awaiting trial or serving county sentences. The facility averages 70–85 inmates and provides essential services including intake and booking, inmate housing, medical coordination, meal service, visitation management, and secure transport to court and other facilities. Our jail staff is committed to maintaining a secure environment, protecting inmate rights, and ensuring the safety of the public, employees, and those in our custody.

Lincoln County Sheriffs Office maintains public safety and enforces laws. Duties include patrolling, emergency response, investigations, and detention. Committed to integrity and professionalism, the office works to protect and support the community.
